Home With Kelli

Hello and welcome to my home owner's series.  This is a fun blog series which features a different home-owner every month.  The purpose?  To be inspired, and see others' decorating styles!

June's featured home-owner is Kelli, a dear high school friend of mine. Since I've known Kelli, she has demonstrated her knack for all things artistic.  Her eye for design and decorating makes it fun to feature a room of hers today.  Since Kelli lives in St. Louis, I couldn't personally experience her room (boohoo!), or take the pictures myself, but with Kelli's recent update of her "powder" room, she agreed to be this month's feature.  She sent her pictures my way, and here we are.

The Room: Powder room/guest bathroom

I am loving the color Kelli chose.  The wall color and white board and betten create a light, open feel, which is ideal for smaller spaces.  Though a small space, as powder rooms usually are, there is nothing "small" about the decor!  Geometric patterns, the air plants, board and batten....all these things create a chic little powder room.

Let's hear more about it from Kelli.....

1.   Why did you choose this room?

"I just recently updated this bathroom, so it was an easy choice for me."

2.  How did you determine the color palate for this     room?

"The former color in this room was floor to ceiling dark brown. I wanted to add the   white board and batten to lighten it up. The wall color is Palladian Blue from           Benjamin Moore".

Here is the color and description of it below (as per Ben Moore):

"All is calm and relaxed with this soft, airy blue that combines the blue of the sky with a touch of mother of pearl".   I couldn't have said it better, and I agree.  Light and beautiful.

3.  Is there something in the room that tells your story?

"I guess it tells my story in the colors, in that I love blues and greens".

photo quality is reduced due to lighting, but you get the idea.  The wall color is so fresh. And the white board and batten against that light blue is dynamite!

4.  Why did you choose the accessories you did for this room?

"I am really into everything geometric right now, so that influenced the print (from        etsy) and wall hanging (from Hobby Lobby). I also love these little air plants that          are so easy to care for"  I'm right with Kelli on the love for geometric!  Etsy is the perfect place to find hand-made items for the home, and there are many options in geometric decor..

For the Love of......Geometric!

A bit difficult to see it, but, there is a great geometric print hanging to the right of the mirror. See it?  (follow giant arrow)

And the air plant wall decor..... this is actually looking like a very good route for me to go, as I've battled to maintain plant life in the yard for years.....

5.  How much time have you spent making this room               appear as it is now?

"Well, I spent a lot of time thinking about the design and choosing the vanity, mirror,   fixture, accessories, but I hired someone to do the plumbing, wood work, painting,   etc."     The time Kelli spent pulling this room together shows.  Even powder rooms can (and should!) be AWESOME and make a statement that's YOU!

6.   Do you have any future plans for this room? (changes, additions, etc.). If so, what?

"I'm still thinking about adding a black and white photo or some other art piece across from the toilet. I've also thought about a rug in front of the vanity, but it has to be very thin because of the proximity of the door swing"   Love it.

7.   Has anything been particularly challenging about styling/decorating this room?

"Luckily I had a contractor who was able to deal with all of the intricacies of switching the plumbing and lighting!"   Nice!  Not only does Kelli have great decorating sense, but she is smart too!

Thank you Kelli, for sharing your updated powder room on the blog!  It's beautiful.  I am inspired by the air plant on the wall....and have found myself looking at "unique" plant stands and plant hanging options.......

I am also inspired by Kelli's choice of wall color, and the artistic flare in this space!  Actually makes me want to re-do a bathroom....like now.  Can't wait to see what she ends up doing for an additional art piece or rug!

Now, who's going to go out shopping for an air plant, or geometric decor?

Home With Chloe

Greetings readers and welcome to my monthly blog series featuring home owners and their awesome rooms! The first blog post in this series was published last month. If you missed that, you can see it at this link: www.novodecorco.com/blogposts/homewithkatieandscott

For the month of May, I am featuring a bedroom, chosen by its proud owner and decorator extraordinaire, Chloe!  Chloe's mother Angie, is a friend of mine.  She also happens to be the creative behind Gathered & Sown, designing and creating leather handbags & accessories! (check her out: www.gathered-sown.com).  So, it is no surprise that her daughter Chloe has a knack for design and decorating!  When I first marketed this new blog series, Angie said, "My daughter loves to decorate!", and I said, "Well then...let's get her on the blog!"

I stopped in to see Chloe's room last Saturday morning.  Chloe is in 7th grade and loves to decorate!  She was happy to have her room featured on the blog and she had everything in place....styled perfectly!  I asked some questions and here are her responses:

1.  Why did you choose this room?  Because I liked the character of the room.

2.  How did you determine the color palette for this room? I always liked the way that gold looks in rooms  (the girl knows her stuff!). I really like the gold, gray and crisp white color scheme in  Chloe's room!

3.  Is there something in this room that tell your story?  Chloe said that wherever she goes shopping, she always sees stuff that she likes.  Chloe's room definitely tells a story.  There are signs with the word "love", her favorite gold accents, and a couple different sitting areas that are very functional!  She has a cute desk area, and a comfy couch in the corner.   I would have loved to have a couch in my room at that age!  Lol.

4.  Why did you choose the furniture and accessories you did for this room? "I like the style of all the accessories."

5.  How much time have you spent making this room appear as it is now? "About a year and a half".  (See #7 below!)

6.  Do you have any future plans for this room?  If so what? "I want to add pillows to my bed".  Throw pillows are a necessity in any room!  They add color, texture, and character.

7.  Has anything been particularly challenging about styling/decorating this room?  "The only thing is it took awhile."  Chloe's got that right!  Styling a room and making it your own, is an ongoing process.  Styling an entire home?  Well, that takes years.  Decorating doesn't happen overnight, nor would we want it to!  Adding pieces you love to a room over time, makes it extra special.

8.  How does this room make you feel? Chloe stated, "It always puts me in a good mood when I get home."  Chloe's words are exactly what a space should do!   Our living areas can and should make us feel great, and one way to do that is to create a space that contains the things we love!

Chloe's room contains a number of great design elements.  From it's rich gold walls and accents, to crisp white bedding and plenty of texture throughout the room (the gold "puff" ball, throw pillows, bedding, and window panels), this is a room Chloe can be proud of.   A love for decorating is most certainly noted when in this little bedroom!

Great job Chloe and thank you for sharing your awesome room with us!

Stay tuned for next month's featured room at Novo Decor,  the Blog.

Home With Katie & Scott

Welcome! Today I am kicking off the first featured home owner on the blog and this month our home owners are Katie & Scott.   Katie & Scott own a beautiful ranch and the pride they take in their home shows.  Its neutral interiors provides the perfect backdrop to showcase Katie and Scott's favorite things.  And that's what decorating is all about; displaying the things you love and pulling it all together piece by piece.  To find out more about this blog series and how can you be featured, click this link:  www.novodecorco.com/blogposts/callingdecorenthusiasts

When I asked Katie & Scott if they would participate in the feature, Katie responded, "We would love to".  I had a feeling they would, as it is obvious they enjoy decorating!   Katie & Scott chose their bedroom for the featured room.  I gave them a short questionnaire prior to viewing their room, and we talked a bit more about it as I snapped photos.  Here is what they had to say:

1.  Why did you choose this room?   "It is our sanctuary".  Katie also stated that the fireplace plays a huge role in the time they spend in the room (especially during the winter months).  Who wouldn't love a remote control fireplace to click on before rolling out of bed?

I could get used to having a fireplace in my bedroom. How about you?

I could get used to having a fireplace in my bedroom. How about you?

2.  How did you determine the color palette for this room?  "The house started in neutrals so that we can bring any color in."    Throughout the home, there are large statement pieces hung on the wall which bring in color beautifully.  The decor in their featured room also stands out against the neutral walls.

3.  Is there something in this room that tell your story?  If so, what?  "Yes.  Each piece tells part of "our" story".   Katie mentioned gifts they have given to each other, like the artwork above the mantle.  Katie and Scott also love to travel, and they enjoy displaying memorable items and photos from their travels.

4.  Why did you choose the furniture and accessories you did for this room?  "It starts with function, comfort, and practicality but has to have a certain aesthetic."   Katie stated the room is not very large, so they made sure not to clutter the space.  All the decor in the room holds meaning to them both, which is important when deciding what to display.

5.  How much time have you spent making this room appear as it is now?  Both agree that it is a continual process, "constantly evolving and changing."  "Changes were as recent as this week."

6.  Do you have any future plans for this room?  If so what?  "We'd like hardwood floors, but otherwise we are pleased with the space"

7.  Has anything been particularly challenging about styling/decorating this room?  "The room is not huge so we don't want it to feel cluttered."   Upon entering the room, I didn't see or feel clutter at all.  A light, beach theme was obvious.  Katie and Scott like their neutral color palette because it has allowed flexibility for adding colors in their accents.

Mirrors are a great way to create the illusion of a larger space.  This large mirror is functional, and serves a design purpose! Love when decor can do both!

8.  How does this room make you feel?   "As our sanctuary, it is our place to hide out, de-stress, and recharge.  It helps us escape."  Don't we all need a room like that in our home?  I know I do!  Do you have a room in your house that serves as your "sanctuary?"

Creating a space with the things we love involves many components.  From our color choices, patterns and fabrics, to decor, and furniture, every component in a room has the potential to make a room our own.  And rooms evolve as we evolve!  That is what makes decorating great! We can tweak as our tastes and moods change.

Thank you Katie & Scott for sharing your awesome room with us!

New Blog Feature: Calling all decorating enthusiasts!

Do you love to decorate?  It's no secret that I do!  Nothing makes me happier (except my family!) than filling up an empty bookcase, styling, or re-arranging a room!  I love browsing the "inventory" and picking "new" items to re-create a room!   Yes, I have an inventory!  And it is expanding.  It's like shopping at home, but the more my inventory expands the smaller our house gets!  But it's not about my love for decorating, it's about you, and what inspires you within the realm of home decor and decorating.  That's why I've created a new monthly blog feature called, "Home With (your name here)".

This monthly blog post will feature someone else's home; more specifically a favorite room in the home.  I believe all of us, whether we know it or not, have something in our homes that we love and perhaps designed ourselves.  This is your chance to show us what you've got.   We can all appreciate a little inspiration when it comes to interior design....and this series will provide a fun venue from which to share ideas, see others' styles, and be inspiredI

Using your name is optional, so if you'd like to be featured in this series, but prefer I don't use your name, I won't!   Watch for previews and sneak peeks on Facebook, Instagram, and the Novo Decor website (blog page at www.novodecorco.com/blogposts). The first featured home will be showcased later this month! I can't wait.  Don't miss it!

In order for this to come to be successful, I am seeking your help with finding willing "volunteers" to participate in this fun blog series!   I would love to "book" the remainder of the year, with a different home-owner featured each month. That would be A.W.E.S.O.M.E.   In fact as I type this, I can think of about 5 people who would be GREAT for this series!  Hmmmm......

How you can help

Do you, or someone you know, love to decorate?  I mean REALLY love it?  Have you been in a house that you absolutely drooled over?  Do you drool over a room in your own home? (If so that is super)   If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, then click HERE to get in touch with me!  Don't be shy now.  Or, how about asking a friend?  Mention this series to a friend with that awesome living room or master bedroom. Maybe you've tackled a home renovation that you're smittin over?  Whatever your situation, if you love to decorate, you would be GREAT as a participant in this featured blog series!

The Process

The process itself will be simple. I will give you some questions to answer about your space. Then we will schedule a day/time for me to come to your home. I will take pictures of your space.  Lastly, I will put together a blog post featuring your room, and what you have to say about it.   Questions might involve how you came up with your ideas (your inspiration), including your color choices, accessories and decor, the purpose, and story behind the room.  Then I will be featuring your space on my blog,  photos and all.  Don't worry, I will not be taking photos of you! (unless you want a photo of you posing in your awesome room). That's it! Simple. Fun. Inspiring.

Other Considerations

Here are some additional considerations to help you determine whether you, or someone you know might be a candidate to participate.  If your home is currently on the market, being featured on the Novo Decor blog would be a great opportunity to get the word out. Showcasing the assets of a home is an effective way to market to prospective buyers. Not only that, but it's fun to share a room in your home that you are proud of, and love.   Or maybe you have a room that is a challenge and you need ideas!  Share it with us and get some inspiration!

I am so excited to get this series started!  I hope I can find some decor-loving peeps out there! I know you're out there!!!!   Stay tuned for sneak peeks this month of the first home feature on my blog (www.novodecorco.com/blogposts), Facebook (www.facebook.com/novodecorco, and Instagram  (instagram.com/novodecor2015)
