Wooden bench slated for brand new look: Fun with color & geometric designs

Earlier this week I picked up a naked bench owned by a friend, who wants to give it some life.  "Naked" means untreated wood.  There may be a fancier term out there for that, but I refer to it as "naked."  Naked furniture is like a blank artist's canvas.  And with a blank canvas there are SO many possibilities.

When I saw the bench and we talked about it, Becky, the naked bench owner, told me "Just have fun with it".  Wait, what?  Words cannot describe how much that means!  As a creative, it is one of the most flattering comments to hear because it means I am trusted.  Whether a customer has seen my work, or has worked with me in the past, hearing these five words "just have fun with it", truly is a treat, and I am left humbly filled with gratitude.

And now, introducing the naked bench........

Becky, the bench owner, expressed her desire for something "fun" for her custom built bench. She mentioned the piano I painted a while back, and then we started talking about color combinations, staining options, and style (she likes distressed!  HELLO. That's my specialty!).

Have you seen the geometric painted piano Becky was referring to?  If not, you can see it here:  The Painted Piano

Here is a glimpse of that painted piano to show you what a design and color plan can do to a piece of furniture...

Say good-bye to the NAKED BENCH

I'll start by sanding and staining the entire bench a rich dark walnut color.   Then I'll sketch different designs. on paper, and finalize a design...

When the design is determined, I will "pencil" the design right onto the piece.  Then.....drum roll.......

Painting begins!

Before long, this bench will fit right in with its super fun and inviting home!

I really look forward to transforming this piece into a unique accent for Becky and her family that will last for years to come....

Stay tuned for more updates and other furniture painting shenanigans!

Have a great day
