Home With Kelli

Hello and welcome to my home owner's series.  This is a fun blog series which features a different home-owner every month.  The purpose?  To be inspired, and see others' decorating styles!

June's featured home-owner is Kelli, a dear high school friend of mine. Since I've known Kelli, she has demonstrated her knack for all things artistic.  Her eye for design and decorating makes it fun to feature a room of hers today.  Since Kelli lives in St. Louis, I couldn't personally experience her room (boohoo!), or take the pictures myself, but with Kelli's recent update of her "powder" room, she agreed to be this month's feature.  She sent her pictures my way, and here we are.

The Room: Powder room/guest bathroom

I am loving the color Kelli chose.  The wall color and white board and betten create a light, open feel, which is ideal for smaller spaces.  Though a small space, as powder rooms usually are, there is nothing "small" about the decor!  Geometric patterns, the air plants, board and batten....all these things create a chic little powder room.

Let's hear more about it from Kelli.....

1.   Why did you choose this room?

"I just recently updated this bathroom, so it was an easy choice for me."

2.  How did you determine the color palate for this     room?

"The former color in this room was floor to ceiling dark brown. I wanted to add the   white board and batten to lighten it up. The wall color is Palladian Blue from           Benjamin Moore".

Here is the color and description of it below (as per Ben Moore):

"All is calm and relaxed with this soft, airy blue that combines the blue of the sky with a touch of mother of pearl".   I couldn't have said it better, and I agree.  Light and beautiful.

3.  Is there something in the room that tells your story?

"I guess it tells my story in the colors, in that I love blues and greens".

photo quality is reduced due to lighting, but you get the idea.  The wall color is so fresh. And the white board and batten against that light blue is dynamite!

4.  Why did you choose the accessories you did for this room?

"I am really into everything geometric right now, so that influenced the print (from        etsy) and wall hanging (from Hobby Lobby). I also love these little air plants that          are so easy to care for"  I'm right with Kelli on the love for geometric!  Etsy is the perfect place to find hand-made items for the home, and there are many options in geometric decor..

For the Love of......Geometric!

A bit difficult to see it, but, there is a great geometric print hanging to the right of the mirror. See it?  (follow giant arrow)

And the air plant wall decor..... this is actually looking like a very good route for me to go, as I've battled to maintain plant life in the yard for years.....

5.  How much time have you spent making this room               appear as it is now?

"Well, I spent a lot of time thinking about the design and choosing the vanity, mirror,   fixture, accessories, but I hired someone to do the plumbing, wood work, painting,   etc."     The time Kelli spent pulling this room together shows.  Even powder rooms can (and should!) be AWESOME and make a statement that's YOU!

6.   Do you have any future plans for this room? (changes, additions, etc.). If so, what?

"I'm still thinking about adding a black and white photo or some other art piece across from the toilet. I've also thought about a rug in front of the vanity, but it has to be very thin because of the proximity of the door swing"   Love it.

7.   Has anything been particularly challenging about styling/decorating this room?

"Luckily I had a contractor who was able to deal with all of the intricacies of switching the plumbing and lighting!"   Nice!  Not only does Kelli have great decorating sense, but she is smart too!

Thank you Kelli, for sharing your updated powder room on the blog!  It's beautiful.  I am inspired by the air plant on the wall....and have found myself looking at "unique" plant stands and plant hanging options.......

I am also inspired by Kelli's choice of wall color, and the artistic flare in this space!  Actually makes me want to re-do a bathroom....like now.  Can't wait to see what she ends up doing for an additional art piece or rug!

Now, who's going to go out shopping for an air plant, or geometric decor?

Join me next month for July's featured room!
