Try this Bold Color Scheme in 2016

With a new year on the horizon, do you have some new projects you'd like to tackle?  I know I do!   As soon as the tree is down I immediately get the itch to incorporate new colors. Today I'd like to introduce a hot new color scheme. It's bold, yet so versatile.....

The cool blues and purples mixed with warm orange-y hues create a dynamic mix.   A variety of other colors could also be added for a little extra fun.   For starters I was inspired by these three colors below:

Next week I will be installing a room using this color scheme.  Seeing the decor sitting in my workshop waiting to be delivered has certainly inspired me.   I just might have to try it in my own home!  I've incorporated other hues to the mix including lilac, various shades of teals and oranges, and metallic gold/silver.  It is such a rich blend of colors and would be stunning in any room of the house.

Teal/turquoise was the base color I started with. Then I browsed Pinterest for a little inspiration.  I entered various color combinations in the search box, including teal.  After browsing several color combinations, oranges and purples caught my eye.  And when I found out the customer's favorite color is purple, I knew it was meant to be!   Here is a look at how I've captured some other key hues in the decor/accessories that will be used in the room....

Various fabrics/patterns were used for the chair upholstery, and I also painted a few pieces including an accent table and a chair.  The black framed art incorporates a variety of colors, including metallic gold and silver.  It's frame was painted black to pull together some of the already existing black furniture in the room.....

Though it's fun (and necessary!) to incorporate color into a room, it is important to consider how to pull the new hues in with the old.  Current pieces can, and in some cases, should be left untouched, because a large part of a room's visual appeal is the variety of textures and mixing the old with the new.  This particular room has a a neutral base (light gray walls, cream carpet, dark gray couches).  A few black pieces were left unchanged including the TV (I won't be painting TV's anytime soon. Lol), TV stand, and coffee table.   My goal was to balance the bold new color scheme with the neutral tones and dark furniture.   A simple black and cream geometric rug was the solution.....

The rug will be a definite statement piece in the room and will serve as the "anchor" pulling all the pieces together.

Along with a variety of wall art and a dynamic area rug, decor and accessories will also play a role in incorporating the color scheme. From pottery in bold hues, to rustic iron table-top pieces, and natural woods, this room is ready to stand out.   Here is a sneak peek at some of the pieces that will be used to accessorize the space....

Color scheme inspiration can be achieved a number of ways.  In this particular case I utilized Pinterest.  Pictures, patterned rugs, or pillows can also serve as a starting point for your inspiration.  By choosing two to three key colors from these items and incorporating them into your space, you are off to a great start!

I am pulling together a few more details for this space for a January 6, 2016 deadline!  This is my first room re-fresh in 2016 and I hope you'll check back and see the before/afters!

Until next time....happy decorating (with color!) and Happy 2016.
